Mushroom Lovers!

Fall is a great time to visit us if you love mushrooms. The rains come and all of a sudden everyone is out hunting for mushrooms. My sister delivered a batch of chanterelles to my folks the other night and we made an incredible pasta with roasted tomatoes from my garden. Of course everyone here is protective about their secret spots. Even if you're not a mushroom explorer (and it's not for novices), all the restaurants will have delicious entrees featuring our friendly fungi! Tempted? Come stay at the Tree House!

Tree House in Fort Bragg, CA

Tree House 1 bedroom in Fort Bragg, CA, $120-140/night

Sweet, sunny 1 bedroom with kitchen plus deck overlooking wooded forest. Easily sleeps 3-4 people; there is one queen bed and two twin murphy beds (in the living room). It is very private, and has a full bathroom. It is spacious (800 sq ft), and detached, so very quiet.

There is a full kitchen--great for cooking (you bring food, we supply the coffee!). The apartment is on the second floor (but no one resides below, there is an unused garage), so you need to go up a flight of stairs. Over 300 folks have rented the Tree House and most exclaim at how large, sunny, and comfie it is!

You are a two minute walk from the redwoods of Jackson State Forest, and a 2 mile drive from the Mendocino Coast beaches and the gorgeous botanical gardens. Enjoy wine-tasting, surfing, kayaking, or hiking at any time of year, or check in advance to find out which of the many festivals are happening before you visit (crab, mushroom, whale, film and music festivals, local history days, paul bunyan days, etc). Well-behaved pets are ok, but should be on leash when not in the house. No smoking inside. We are about 8 minutes away from Fort Bragg, and are about 15 minutes from the village of Mendocino.

We're about a 3.5 hour drive from San Francisco or Oakland airports. Santa Rosa also has a small airport (Alaska/Horizon main carrier). We are 2.5 hours from Santa Rosa.
We are gay-friendly, tourist-friendly, family-friendly! Please let me know in advance if you have any special needs or requests to make your stay enjoyable.
Note that we require a two night minimum on weekends, but will occasionally make exceptions, so please don't hesitate to ask. Payment is by check or cash upon arrival.

Email anne@well.com if interested in a visit or have questions.

Here's a quote from one of our guests "Our family enjoyed being together this past weekend in Anne's sweet little tree house; this included the family dog! It is SO quiet there, it's awesome! You feel like you are in a tree house, because it is surrounded by lush trees and rhododendrons."

Lily Pad

Sweet two story cabin in forested area of Mendocino County, CA near Fort Bragg (off Simpson Lane).  $1100/mo
Sleep in the upstairs queen-sized bed (with super comfy memory foam mattress) in a room looking over the trees. The room is just big enough for a bed, and feels very "loft-like". Just off this 2nd story bedroom is a sweet little deck perched amidst the woods (manzanita and cypress!), and two Adirondack chairs for kicking back.
Walk down the stairs from the bedroom and relax in the cozy living room, fitted with large windows looking onto the trees and grassy yard. A comfortable, large couch and reading chair provide all the peace and quiet you could hope for! Should you desire some entertainment, we have a 24" flat screen TV with movies on netflix. And we have Wi-Fi
dining table in kitchen

Downstairs features an eating area with a table for two. The kitchenette has a mini fridge, microwave, toaster oven, tea kettle, hot plate, and coffee maker. Note that there is no stove, but a hot plate (with pots) is provided so you do some basic cooking.

bedroom on 2nd floor
There is a spacious bathroom, BUT it is located 50 feet away from the cabin, and you'll have to walk outside to get there. The house is lit at night with motion sensors so you can see where you're going. The bathroom itself is large, and comes with a walk in shower and tub for two.  The bathroom is attached to the main house, though you will have it entirely to yourselves and it locks so no chance of us walking in on you.

One last thing to note about this charming but funky spot:. Adjacent to the cabin is a water pump for our well that comes on intermittently. It emits a low hum when activated. Not enough to keep you awake or disturb your peace and quiet, but it's there.
The Lily Pad was named after my youngest daughter, in case you are wondering how it got its name.

I am Annabelle

Bad at selfies, good at growing dahlias!
I love the natural beauty and tranquility of the Mendocino Coast. I moved here over 14 years ago from San Francisco and slid right into a life more slowly-paced, which was a welcome change to my urban adventures (which I did love dearly for two decades). But the rural north coast was a much easier place to raise two little kids. I like to write, sightsee, and explore, so this blog is a way for me to share what I love about living here.

With my bestie in Uxmal
I originally named the blog "Annabelle's Getaway" because I have a sweet little vacation rental on my property in Fort Bragg, CA and the blog was an easy way to share the link with people. (Now we call it the Tree House--it is nestled amidst a small grove of cypress and firs--and it is much easier to book through airbnb.) We have had countless friends, family members, and charming strangers stay in it over the years. I enjoy showing off our coast to them, so much so that I started giving tours a year ago. I relish all of the stories and conversations I have with visitors about this special part of the world, but I also love to hear about the places they are from as well. The tours feed my traveler's curiosity and give my inner tour guide an outlet! I don't get to travel nearly as often as time or budget or life will allow, so I get my kicks from other people's adventure stories.
